Abstract

1,237,457. Unsaturated polyester composition- STANDARD OIL CO. 5 July, 1968 [6 July, 1967], No. 32138/68. Heading C3P. A composition comprising an intimate mixture of (A) an ethylenically unsaturated polyester resin, (B) a dialkyl phthalate and (C) an N-octyl acrylamide (mainly consisting of the t-octyl isomer), optionally together with (D) randomly dispersed reinforcing fibres and (E) a granular inorganic solid filler, the proportions of the components (A) to (E) being from 30 to 70% by weight of (A), from 5 to 35% by weight of (B), and from 10 to 65% by weight of (C), based on the combined weights of (A)+(B)+ (C); from 0 to 70% by weight of (D) based on the combined weights of (A)+(B)+(C)+(D); and from 0 to 75% by weight of (E) based on the combined weights of (A) + (B) + (C) + (E). In the examples, the compositions comprise polyester resins derived from maleic acid, isophthalic acid and propylene glycol, t-octyl acrylamide, diallyl phthalate, alumina, dicumyl peroxide, zinc stearate, red pigment and dropped glass fibres, and are cured as a mat in a mould.
