Abstract
1,237,445. Crash barriers. J. C. FITCH, 29 Aug., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967], No. 41215/68. Heading E1G. A crash barrier comprises an array of units each of which comprises a frangible container and is at least partially filled with a dispersible mass, the C.G. of each unit being at a height above the average level of that of vehicles using the road above its geometric mid-point. The units are freely movable on the surface of the road or like and may be connected by flexible cables. A unit is shown in Fig. 4 which is cylindrical and has an upper section 22 filled with sand a lower section 26 supporting the top section and comprising a series of concentric tubes 32, 34 and 36. A suitable arrangement of the weights is shown in Fig. 1.
