Abstract

1,237,386. Electrographic image-receiving sheets. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 3 Oct., 1968 [9 Oct., 1967], No. 46896/68. Heading B2E. [Also in Division G2] An electrographic image-receiving element comprises a support having coated thereon a layer 1 to 10Á thick of an insulating binder and having embedded in the layer and protruding from the surface thereof randomly distributed filler particles of diameter 2 to 50Á. The protruding particles are used to space 12 the latent-image bearing member 11 away from the element. On application of a potential across the member 11 and the element, the electrostatic image pattern is transferred to the element. The support 14 may be paper coated on both sides with a clay subbing and sized on one side with polyvinylbenzyl-ammonium chloride or the support may be glass, cellulose acetate, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene or polyethylene-coated paper. The polymeric binder 15 is preferably a copolymer of vinyl butyral, vinyl acetate and vinyl alcohol but other polymers are specified. The binder layer contains coloured or white pigment 16 such as BaSO 4 , ZnO, TiO 2 , ZnCO 3 , CaCO 3 or bentonite. The protruding particles 13 may be BaSO 4 , ZnO, TiO 2 , ZnCO 3 , CaCO 3 , polystyrene, or glass beads. The protruding particles can be spherical, conical, cylindrical or polyhedral. The prior art discloses receiving elements with no protruding particles or with spacing particles dusted on the surface.
