Abstract

1,237,265. Impregnating for electric insulation. AYRODEV PROCESSES Ltd. 6 Nov., 1968 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 47627/68. Heading D1P. A coiled component of rotatable electric machinery, e.g. an armature, is impregnated with an electrically insulating varnish at a rate such that air does not become entrapped in the windings, excess varnish is drained off and the component is dried and cured using an oven as claimed in Application 45284/68. As exemplified, a sea-water and oil contaminated armature is cleaned with a composition containing the dioleate salt of N-stearyl-npropylene-1, 3-diamine, methyl salicylate white spirit and dipentene, is hosed with live steam, dried and subsequently impregnated with a blown linseed oil modified tung oil glyceryl phthalate alkyd resin and redried. During drying the temperature, insulation resistance, capacitance and loss factor of the winding are monitored.
