Abstract

1,236,932. Orienting pins. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 1 Aug., 1968 [19 July, 1967], No. 33278/67. Heading B8S. [Also in Division F1] Means for detecting the orientation of a plurality of elongated objects, e.g. cylindrical terminal pins 3, Fig. 1, having one bevelled end 7, Fig. 2, and a circular sectioned end 9 as the pins arrive from a vibrating drum 2 through a duct 1 to a monitoring point, e.g. a vertical bore 4 in a vertical turntable 5 comprises a seating 6 at one end of an air inlet port adjacent said bore 4 and which when engaged by the pin results in either a low or high back pressure being developed in a back pressure detecting device 10 of the fluid logic type from which is obtained at its output port 13 either a positive output or no output, thus signifying that the pin 3 is orientated in bore 4 in a particular direction. The air supply to the input port 12 of device 10 is timed to occur after the pin 3 is received by the bore 4 and the output port 13 is connected to two further fluidic devices 14 which control means is for rotating the turntable 90 degrees in either clockwise or anticlockwise direction, thereby bringing bore 4 in line with a pin ejector 17 and a receiving tube 16.
