Abstract

123,667. Epstein, H. June 1, 1918. Vehicles with removable bodies.- A railway freight car of ordinary construction comprising a box-like body having a top C, bottom P, sides D, and removable ends B is arranged to receive a removable goods-receiving liner E, preferably of collapsible form, adapted to fit closely against the walls of the car, so that the capacity of the latter is not materially diminished, while the car can also be used without the liner. The bottom of the car is provided with rails G on which run wheels E<1> on the liner, the gauge of the rails G being the same as that of the rails on which the car itself runs. Rail sections H are adapted to bridge the gap between the rails G of adjacent cars, and the liners of adjacent cars can be coupled together by hooks F after the ends B are removed, thus allowing a series of liners to be moved as a train. The liner shown is of collapsible form in two parts, having sides E<2> of trellis structure, one part having a top E<3> situated slightly below the top E' of the other part. Gaps are left between the parts of the liner opposite the ordinary sliding doors at the sides of the car, or supplementary doors may be furnished between the parts of the liner.
