[Also in Division C2] The invention comprises potassium tetrafluorocobaltate of the formula KCoF 4 . The compound may be prepared by passing gaseous fluorine over potassium trifluorocobaltate at 200‹ to 280‹ C., the potassium trifluorocobaltate having been obtained as a precipitate by heating solutions of potassium fluoride and cobaltous chloride to 100‹ C. and mixing them slowly. The compound is useful as a fluorinating agent for organic compounds (see Division C2).
