Abstract

1,236,273. Folding machine. T. EBISU. 25 Oct., 1968 [26 Oct., 1967], No. 50738/68. Heading D1S. A cloth folding machine has a cloth feeding means consisting of in the embodiment shown, rollers 12 and 20 and endless belts 25 and 19; which progressively forwards downwardly a belt-like sheet of cloth a. A cloth hanging means is horizontally disposed below the feeding means and comprises e.g. a metal plate 38 attached to the rod 36 which is supported in the hook 35 of the oscillating arm 33. A guide means which oscillates the cloth in a horizontal direction, is positioned between the cloth feeding and hanging means. In this embodiment it comprises guide levers 40 rotatably connected to arm 33 and guide plates 42. A pair of keep arms made of a flexible material project from 42 and are fitted with press plates 44 which alternately contact the cloth hanging means. Thus the cloth is folded alternately on the right and left sides of the hanging means as the hanging and guide means move in opposite directions. In another embodiment the cloth feeding means is operable either by motor or by hand. A counter device may be incorporated in this embodiment so that the motor is stopped after a prescribed length of cloth has been folded. Multiple folding may be achieved by using a series of stationary hanging bars. Half the prescribed length of cloth is folded on one bar then half on an adjacent bar. The first group of foldings is taken off its bar and rehung thereon inside out. The forward end of this portion of cloth and the rear end of the second portion are superimposed to form a double sheet which is then hung half on a third rod and half on a fourth rod. The above procedure is repeated and the final condition of the folded cloth is shown in Fig. 12C.
