Abstract
1,236,110. Typewriters. E. B. COHEN. 3 April, 1970 [6 Jan., 1969], No. 691/69. Heading B6F. A typewriter for a handicapped person comprises solenoid-operated keys connected to circumferentially arranged contacts (17) which are contacted one after the other by a motor-driven rotary contact arm (16). The arm (16), after the machine is switched on, rotates and lights lamps (15) in a housing B corresponding to a type which at that moment can be operated. Printing can be effected by closing the contacts 18a, 27 and 19b by pressure on a pad 26. The first contact to be made is 18a which introduces a potentiometer into the circuit of a motor (D) rotating the contact arm 16 and slowing it down as the chosen character is approaching. Further pressure on pad 26 occurs when correct character is illuminated whereupon contact 19b opens and stops rotation of arm (16) and contact 27 operates the solenoid 12 of the type-operating key lever (10). The carriage is returned by a motor operated electrically from a key on the typewriter.
