1,235,569. Electrolytic production of organoboron and organo-metallic compounds. MONSANTO CO. 11 Dec., 1968 [12 Dec., 1967], No. 59027/68. Addition to 1,182,651. Headings C2C and C2J. [Also in Divisions C6-C7] In an electrolytic process for producing a compound of the general formula or a mixture of such compounds in which M is (a) boron or a metal from Group II, IIIA, or IVA of the Periodic Table according to Deming or (b) a transitional metal from Group IB, IIIB, IVB, VB, VIB, VIIB, or VIII of said Periodic Table or (c) a mixture of at least one element under (a) and at least one transition metal under (b), X is a halogen atom, n is an integer which is one less than the valency of M, and p is 0 or 1; a mixture comprising a methylene halide, e.g. methylene dichloride, and a compound having the general Formula (I) above is electrolysed using an element under (a) or (b) or an alloy of an element under (a) with a transition metal under (b). The anode may be formed of aluminium, or of titanium, vanadium, manganese or an alloy thereof with aluminium. The electrolyte may contain cyclohexene, and an atmosphere of ethylene or nitrogen may be provided above the bath. The process may be carried out continuously.
