Abstract
1,235,226. Removing cuttings. IMPERIAL MFG. & ENG. CO. 3 Oct., 1969, No. 48680/69. Heading B3B. In a machine tool, having a bed 11 on which is mounted a workholding turret 13 indexable rotatably about a vertical axis, means is provided for the removal of cuttings produced during machining operations on workpieces as each workholder 14 on the turret is presented to each tool head 12 on the bed. The means comprises an annular trough 19 formed between a peripheral wall 16 formed on the bed around the turret and a rotatably movable annular member 18, the member having blades 20 which are radially inclined to the turret axis, the rotary motion of the member relative to the wall 16 around the turret effecting the sweeping by blades 20, of the cuttings into apertures 36 provided in the bed 11 constituting the base of the trough. The member is driven from an electric motor through sprocket 26 which engages a chain 22 extending around the member, engagement between the chain and driving sprocket being maintained by idler sprockets 24 or alternatively by radially spaced bearing members 35 secured to the bed.
