Abstract
1,234,954. Electric heating resistances. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS ELECTRIQUES DE CHARLEROI. 7 June, 1968 [8 June, 1967; 28 March, 1968], No. 27257/68. Heading H5H. A heating element of the type comprising a conductive varnish on a flexible or rigid insulating support, the varnish being bordered by electrodes applied to the support, is characterized by using as binder for the varnish a thermoplastic resin, belonging to the classes of insulation F, H or C, which does not have to be cured or heat-treated and which forms a completely stable film after evaporation of the solvent in which it is applied, and by having an insulating support belonging to the classes of insulation Y, A, E or B. Suitable binders are polydichlorodifluoroethylene, polyvinylidene fluoride and a polycondensate of bis-phenol A and 4, 4<SP>1</SP>- dichlorodiphenyl sulphone. The varnish has a filler of carbon black, graphite or powdered metals. Specific examples are given. The heating element is used for heating roads by incorporating it in the concrete slabs or surfacing thereof. Suitable volatile solvents for the binders are specified. British Standard Specification No. 2757 (1956) defines insulation classes F, H, C as 155 C., 180 C., or higher, and defines classes Y, A, E, B as 90C., 105C., 120C., 130 C., i.e. substantially below 155 C.
