[Also in Division F2] A flexible guide pipe for connecting in underwater drilling the surface installation and the well head and used for conveying the flushing fluid and for passage of the drill bit comprises a coupling at each end, an internal armouring constituted by the helical winding of a metallic strip with the - convolutions interlocking, an external sleeve made of a winding or netting of metallic wires or cables and tightly surrounding the armouring, means to anchor the ends of the sleeve on the couplings, and means to render the pipe fluid tight. The metallic strip may be of S-shaped cross-section with the armouring coated with elastomeric or thermoplastic material to render the pipe fluid tight. Alternatively a helical sealing joint may be used between convolutions. A metal strip may be situated between adjacent convolutions to avoid the jamming of a drill bit. The ends of the sleeve may be formed into eye pieces which are positioned around pulleys on the couplings. Electric wires and/or flexible hydraulic hoses may be embedded in the sleeve to transmit signals, data, or power.
