Abstract
1,069,274. Hose with electric conductors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 16, 1965 [Dec. 24, 1963], No. 50872/63. Heading F2P. [Also in Division H2] A hose comprising a metal inner wall 2 covered by an air-tight elastomeric sleeve 4 with an outer cover 6 of braid into which is woven at least one of a number of conductive paths 8 extending along the hose has at its ends mutually insulated terminal members, as at 14B and 16B, each connected to the ends of a conducting path. There may be more than one conductor woven into the sleeve, but all are connected to one only of the end terminals 14B by way of an annular contact member 14. Another annular terminal 16B is connected at 16A to the flexible inner wall 2 which serves as the return conductor, being formed of a single metal strip of rectangular S crosssection spirally wound, with the adjacent turns interlocked (Fig. 2, not shown). A tapered skirt 12 of flexible insulating material is provided to progressively stiffen the hose near the terminals. The terminals and hose end shown in Fig. 1A are designed to fit into a socket of the main unit of a vacuum cleaner which has a locking device that co-operates with a circumferential groove 18. At the other end of the hose the electric circuits are each connected to one of the pins of a two-pin socket which is mounted alongside the outside of a spigot tube of insulating material designed for connection with a suction nozzle (Fig. 1B, not shown).
