Abstract

1,234,573. Sterile packs. J. G. FRANK IN & SONS Ltd. 24 July, 1968, No. 353 068. Heading B8C. A sterile pack for a surgical instrument e.g. a catheter 3, comprises opposed flexible strips 1 and 2 (separate or integral) sealed together at their margins but peelable apart to allow access to the catheter 3 by grasping of a tab 5 of the strips 1 and an extension of the strip 2, the extension either being integral with the strip 2 and peelably sealed to the strip 1 to cover the tab 5, or the extension comprising a printed paper label 7 peelably sealed to a tab 6 of the strip 2 and to the strip 1 to cover the tab 5. The strip 1 comprises a transparent polythene/regenerated cellulose laminate, and the strip 2 a paper/polythene/paper laminate, the polythene of strip 1 being heat-sealed to one of the paper layers of strip 2 so that on peeling the paper layer ruptures. The extension of the tab 6 is secured by heat-sealing or by latex contact adhesive.
