Abstract

1,234,275. Diaphragms; electromechanical transducers. TIBBETTS INDUSTRIES Inc. 13 May, 1968 [16 May, 1967], No. 22600/68. Heading H4J. An acoustic diaphragm 2 (Figs. 1, 2) for an electro-acoustic transducer 24 (Fig. 3) has a flexural pivot pin 6 connected near one edge of the diaphragm 2 and extending substantially perpendicular therefrom for pivotal support, the diaphragm 2 being thereby restricted to rotary movement about the pivot pin 6. A drive pin 7 connects the diaphragm 2, away from its centre of pressure, to a vibratable element 8. The element 8 may be the armature of a moving armature transducer. It extends substantially parallel to the diaphragm 2. The diaphragm 2 has a main " race-track " portion 9, a surround 10 and a self-frame 11. Flats 13, 14 are provided. The flat 13 has apertures 20, 20 for securing the pins 6 and 7. Connection of the element 8 away from the mid-point enables the diaphragm 2 to be of a size to use the available area advantageously. The diaphragm may be circular, elliptical, square or rectangular. The transducer may be a receiver or transmitter.
