1,234,145. Process for the preparation of methylene bridged polyarylamines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 31 March, 1970 [15 April, 1969], No. 19159/69. Heading C2C. The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of methylene bridged polyarylamines which comprises condensing a primary arylamine and formaldehyde at elevated temperature in the presence of a strong acid, i.e. an inorganic acid having a pKa value less than about 1-5, the molar proportion of primary arylamine to strong acid being greater than 1000: 1. The process may be carried out above atmospheric pressure and in a continuous manner. A neutral salt e.g. sodium chloride may be incorporated in the reaction mixture.
