Abstract

1,229,236. Method of preparing methylenebridged polyaryl amines. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. 25 Feb., 1970 [3 Dec., 1968], No. 57272/68. Heading C2C. The invention relates to a process for the manufacture of methylene-bridged polyaryl amines which comprises condensing a primary aryl amine in formaldehyde at elevated temperature in the presence of an acid salt of a polybasic acid as catalyst. The process may be carried out under pressure higher than atmospheric and in a continuous manner. A neutral salt, e.g. a halide of an alkali or alkaline earth metal may also be present in the process. Several examples are given, using aniline as the arylamine.
