Abstract

Blades.-Relates to means for securing the last blade of a row of a turbine blades which are undercut to fit annular projections on the sides of the retaining grooves. The local recess C provided in the side of the groove H to allow the blades and spacing sections to be inserted is of such length that it overlaps three or more separate blades and spacing sections E. G, F, and the locking member A, which is inserted radially after the last inserted section G, terminates opposite the middle of the sections E, F which hold it positively in the radial direction. The locking-member A is held in contact with the sections E, G, F by two or three filling pieces B, D, K. The bottom piece K may be of steel to resist compression due to transverse bending forces on the blade. The contacting surfaces may be smooth or serrated, and undercut as shown bv way of example in the Figures. In cases where the last section must be inserted radially recesses and locking-members may be provided at each side of the groove; or part of the last section may be removed to allow it to be inserted from the side, and a filling-up piece, which may be integral with the locking member, used to fill the groove. The invention is specially applicable to cases where the blades and spacing sections are integral or permanently attached to one another.
