Abstract

1,233,972. Oxymethylene copolymers. CELANESE CORP. 12 Feb., 1969 [12 Feb., 1968], No. 7494/69. Heading C3P. An oxymethylene copolymer is prepared by copolymerizing trioxane with a comonomer in the liquid phase in the presence of up to 50 weight per cent of methylene chloride, based on the trioxane, and at least 0À25 x 10<SP>-4</SP> moles of boron trifluoride-containing catalyst per mole of trioxane. Preferably the polymer produced contains recurring units of formula in which n is from 0 to 4 and is zero in from 60 to 99À9% of the units and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> each represent hydrogen, a methyl or ethyl group or a halogen substituted methyl or ethyl group. In the examples trioxane and ethylene oxide are polymerized in the presence of boron trifluoride dibutyl etherate, CH 2 Cl 2 , CHCl 3 , CCl 4 , CH 3 CHCl 2 , ClCH 2 CH 2 Cl, hexane and cyclohexane.
