Abstract
1,233,751. Control system for reactive loads. HOLZER PATENT A.G. 20 Aug., 1968 [21 Aug., 1967], No. 39737/68. Heading H2H. [Also in Division G3] An A.C. switching device for the control of the supply of A.C. to a reactive load 12, comprises a main A.C. gating device 11, pulseshaping means 17, 18 to derive a synchronous pulse train from the voltage across the main gating device, and an auxiliary gating device 19 arranged to pass a gating signal to the trigger electrode of the main gating device on a chosen coincidence between an input signal, at 22, to the device 19 and the pulse train, whereby the triggering of the main gating device is synchronized with the passage of the voltage across it through zero. As shown, the pulse shaping means is a transformer 17 having its primary winding connected to the main gating device 11 which is a triac or may include thyristors or gas discharge tubes. The centre tapped secondary winding is connected through rectifiers 18 across a resistor 20 connected in series with the emitter of a transistor 19 serving as the auxiliary gating device. This transistor ceases to conduct when the input signal reaches a chosen low value and the voltage across the triac passes through zero, the triac then being triggered to switch on. In another arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the pulse shaper is formed by a Zener diode, a differentiator and a transistor circuit energized from a potential divider connected across the triac 11. This arrangement may be supplemented by a multi-vibrator, amplifying stages and a Schmitt trigger circuit. A taohogenerator arrangement may be connected to the trigger circuit to provide the input signal, the arrangement then being used for the speed regulation of an electric motor.
