Abstract
1,233,325. Gas analysis. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Dec.2, 1969, No.58756/69. Heading G1B. A probe for collecting smoke samples e.g. in a gas turbine engine comprises a casing 22 having a smoke admission aperture 23 leading to a smoke passageway 24 disposed within the casing 22, the space between the casing and the smoke passageway 24 forming a water jacket for circulation of cooling water; a source of pressurized nitrogen being fed to a further passageway within the smoke passageway 24 to entrain smoke entering the aperture 23 and cool it before passage to an analyzer. The pressure of the nitrogen supply is less than that outside the casing 22 in order to allow smoke to enter and the thickness of the probe casing at the aperture 23 is substantially equal to two diameters of the aperture to prevent deposition in the aperture.
