Abstract

In a bulk liquid storage tank comprising a cylindrical shell made up from a series of superimposed courses with the lowest course joined to a bottom and each course consisting of metal plates joined to-gether at their vertical edges, the hoop strength of the lowest course (considered above) is less than that which would be required to withstand the pressure exerted thereon by the contents of the tank when full whilst the hoop strength of the remaining courses are adequate to withstand the pressures exerted upon them. In the above arrangement the hoop strength of the course next above the lowest is increased relative thereto by numerous means for details of which the Specification and drawings (not shown), should be referred to.
