Abstract

1,233,059. Making tube joining members. BOCAMA. 21 June, 1968 [26 June, 1967], No. 29620/68. Heading B3A. A method of making tube joining members for cycles and the like comprises firstly forming a flat blank having a central portion 1 with a substantially rectangular profile and two lateral wings 2 of less width than the central portion. A boss 5 is stamped in the central portion, the blank being formed into a V with a rounded bottom, Fig. 4 (not shown). The wings 2 are folded to orient them perpendicularly to the axis of the boss, a profiled opening 6 is formed in the boss 5 and the transverse edges of the central portion 1 and the lower longitudinal edge of each wing 2 are formed to a desired pattern 7. The boss is then drawn to a cylindrical profile and the wings bent to bring their opposed edges into contact, to be joined by a weld 9. To assist in bending the wings, tongues 8 are formed thereon. These tongues are not welded together and are removed after the weld bead has been levelled. In an alternative embodiment a pair of wings (12<SP>1</SP>), (12<SP>11</SP>) is formed on either side of the portion 1 and tongues (18) interconnecting the wings of a member may either be removed or decoratively perforated, Figs. 14- 16 (not shown).
