Abstract

1,232,892. Sensing records. E. SICK. 28 April, 1969 [26 April, 1968], No. 21641/69. Heading G4M. Narrow code marks of width E with a space on each side of width at least 2E, and wide code marks of width 3E are sensed by illuminating an area of width 4E and imaging this area on 4 photo-detectors whose outputs are connected in pairs to 3 differential amplifiers providing inputs to 2 gates which produce outputs corresponding to wide and narrow marks. The outputs from both gates may be combined to provide timing signals. An optical system employing mirrors, lenses and a beam splitter for illuminating the code area and projecting an image thereof on to the detectors, is described.
