Abstract
1,232,704. Sampling valve. COULTER ELECTRONICS Ltd. 17 April, 1968 [17 April, 1967], No. 10971/70. Divided out of 1,232,701. Heading B8N. A fluid transfer valve for use in diluting an aliquot of a sample to give a first dilution, then diluting an aliquot of the first dilution to give a second dilution comprises valve elements 12, 14, 16 in face to face contact, at least the centre element 14 being movable relative to its facing elements, two fluid passageways P9, P10 through the movable element 14 and four ports P1-P4, P5-P8 traversing each of elements 12, 16. Movement of element 14 between two positions defined by abutment of the ends of arcuate slot 254 against post 252 enables for example the subtending in passageway P9 of a precise amount of sample flowing in line P1, P9, P5 and its transfer to line P2, P9, P6 where it is flushed out of the valve by diluent flowing into the valve by line P2 to give a first dilution of the sample. With the opposite movement of element 14, a precise amount of " first dilution " may be subtended in passageway P10 for transfer to line P3, P10, P7 where it is flushed out with diluent to form a second dilution.
