Abstract

993,119. Latches. W. & F. BARRETT Ltd. Sept. 27, 1961 [Nov. 23, 1960], No. 40311/60. Heading E2A. Linkage comprises two mutually articulated members 1, 2 and a retaining device 9 pivoted to one member 2 for limited movement, between release and locking positions wherein a slot or guideway 12 on the retaining device is engaged, in the locking position, by the end of the other member 1 when the latter is moved in a plane perpendicular to the plane containing the pivotal axis of the retaining device. As shown, the retaining device consists of a pair of opposed plates interconnected by posts 11, 14 and 15, the posts 14, 15 permitting limited pivotal movement of the device as the members 1, 2 are moved from the Fig. 2 position to the Fig. 1 position, where the posts 14, 15 engage a recess 6 in the member 1. In other arrangements the spacing of the posts is modified in order to dispense with the recess 6, Fig. 3 (not shown) and a reduced end portion of the member 1 is provided centrally at one end thereof, Fig. 4 (not shown).
