Abstract

1,232,628. Cutting machines. FAMILIE WALDENFELS G.m.b.H. 25 Sept., 1968 [25 Sept., 1967], No. 45611/68. Heading B5A. Sheets of fabric composed of warp and weft threads, in which the warp threads are of thermoplastic material, are severed from a web of such fabric in which weft threads are omitted at the positions of severance, by applying heat to the web at those positions with or without pressure. On leaving a delivery roll the fabric 1 is scanned by a photo-electric control device 4, 4a which stops the fabric when a weft-free zone comes opposite it. Two clamp bars 6 controlled by electromagnets 5 then clamp the web on each side of the zone and hold it against an abutment 6a whereupon a hot air nozzle 11 is moved across the web at the weft free zone on a transversely moved bar 7. The hot air severs the web and welds together the severed ends; the bars are then released and the severed sheet falls away. Instead of a hot air nozzle the cutting and welding device may comprise a heated cutter which forces the web against an abutment.
