Abstract

1,232,428. Shovelling machines. RUSTON BUCYRUS Ltd. 23 July, 1968 [11 Aug., 1967], No. 35051/68. Heading E1F. A shovel excavator has a vertically swing- able boom 9 pivoted on a sub frame 2 of the chassis of the excavator, a dipper stick 10 pivoted at 12 on the boom, a mast 17 pivoted on the boom about either the axis 12 or about an adjacent parallel axis. When pivoted about the axis 12 the mast is integral with the dipper stick and has its outer end connected by a strut 19 to the outer end of the dipper stick. When pivoted about the other axis a cable replaces the strut 19. A crowd mechanism 30 extends between a support structure 4 and the boom, whilst a hoist cable 46 extends from a winch 45 to the top of the mast 17. With this structural arrangement of the excavator controlled operation of the crowd mechanism permits of an extensive level cut by the bucket. A bucket tilt mechanism 24, 22, 27 is provided.
