Abstract
1,232,371. Fluid pressure brakes. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 27 Jan., 1970 [7 Jan., 1969], No. 940/69. Heading F2F. An air brake control relay valve by means of which a train of mine cars equipped with spring applied, air-released brakes in a single-pipe system can be supplied from a two-pipe air brake system on a locomotive comprises a housing 10 having an exhaust port 12 to atmosphere, a port 14 connected to a drivers control valve, a port 16 connected to a train pipe and a third port 18 connected to a reservoir for compressed air, the ports 14, 16 communicating with cylindrical chambers 20, 22 respectively which are closed by pistons 24, 26 biased by springs 28, 30 located by guides 32, 34 of which guide 32 is connected to a rod 36 carrying a valve head 38 co-operable with a seat 40 formed on piston 26 about the mouth of guide 34 to control air flow to the exhaust port, the chambers 20, 22 communicating with chambers 50, 52 respectively, closed by diaphragms 54, 56 operable to control a valve having a head 60 and seat 70 biased to an open position by springs 64 and interposed between chamber 52 and port 18.
