Abstract

1,232,292. Ferric chloride. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 11 Sept., 1968 [12 Sept., 1967], No. 43109/68. Heading C1A. Anhydrous ferric chloride is produced by reacting scrap iron with a chlorine gas containing 0À5 to 20% by volume of CO with reference to its Cl 2 content and preferably also an inert gas, e.g. N 2 . The reaction may be carried out at temperatures of more than 700‹ C., preferably 800‹ to 1000‹ C. Oxidic constituents of the iron are also converted to FeCl 3 . The process may be operated continuously.
