A railway crossing frog which may form part of a switch (not shown) comprises fixed wing rails 1, 2 and convergent point rails 4, 5 whose inner ends can bend laterally and are welded together to form a movable point 3 actuated by a motor 15, e.g. in synchronism with the movement of the switch blade. At their outer ends, i.e. at and beyond sleeper plates 10b, the rails 4, 5 are anchored by clamps 8b, Fig. 5, and dowels 14. Near their inner ends, however, the rails 4, 5 are provided with spacers 12, Fig. 4 (not shown) and can bend resiliently, sliding laterally between abutments (8a) on sleeper plates (10a). The rails may have weakening recesses to facilitate bending. The motor 15 is coupled to the point 3a by a slide rod a associated with a lost motion locking device, Fig. 2b (not shown), comprising hammer-headed arms (c, d) pivoted to the underside of the movable point and cooperating with abutment faces on fixed locking boxes (b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP>) and with recesses (a<SP>1</SP>, a<SP>2</SP>) in the slide rod.
