Abstract
1,231,273. Disproportionating olefins. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM CO. 2 April, 1968 [3 April, 1967], No. 52229/70. Divided out of 1,231,272. Heading C5E. In the catalytic disproportionation of olefins, the feed of one or more olefins is contacted with MgO at a temperature below which any substantial isomerization takes place, prior to contact with the disproportionation catalyst. The MgO is preferably activated prior to contact with the olefin by heating in an oxygencontaining gas stream at 500-1500‹ F. The disproportionation catalyst may be: (1) activated SiO 2 or thoria promoted with an oxide (or precursor thereof) of Mo, W or Re; or by a sulphide of W or Mo; (2) activated Al 2 O 3 promoted by an oxide (or precursor thereof) of Mo, W or Re; or by a sulphide of W or Mo; or by an alkali metal salt, alkaline earth metal salt, NH 4 <SP>+</SP> salt or Bi salt of phosphomolybdic acid; (3) activated phosphates of Al, Zr, Ca, Mg or Ti promoted by an oxide (or precursor thereof) of Mo, W or Re or by a sulphide of W or Mo or by magnesium tungstate or by beryllium phosphotungstate; or (4) activated SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , phosphates of Al, Zr, Ca, Mg or Ti promoted by hexacarbonyl of W or Mo. Examples describe the disproportion of pentene-1 and of a mixture of heptene-2 and heptene-3.
