Abstract
1,231,146. Mould clamping. BRITISH CERAMIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. 15 Jan., 1970 [22 Jan., 1969], No. 3728/69. Heading B5A. [Also in Division B1] A pressure vessel, e.g. moulding or casting apparatus, in two or more sections, is clamped together by devices embracing flanges on the mating faces of the sections, the clamping devices incorporating fluid-pressure means. As shown in Fig. 2, the sections 16, 18 have flanges 16a, 18a, held by a channel-section key 32 which may have one or more fluid pressure heads. Each such head contains a cylinder 34 having a fluid inlet 40 and a piston 36, the rod 38 of which acts under the fluid pressure to urge the mating surfaces of flanges 16a, 18a into fluidtight contact. On release of the pressure, rod 38 is returned by spring 42. The key 32 is swung down to embrace the flanges by means of cylinders (22, Fig. 1, not shown) acting through lever system (24, 26, 28, 30). The whole casting unit may be pivoted about the horizontal axis (6) of the frame (4) in which it is retained. The casting unit may be slip-casting apparatus.
