Abstract

1,230,847. Fixing window units. BECKETT, LAYCOCK & WATKINSON Ltd. 2 Sept., 1969 [26 Sept., 1968; 10 Dec., 1968], Nos. 45827/68 and 58691/68. Heading E1J. A window unit designed to be inserted laterally into an aperture in a structure such as a building or vehicle body comprises a frame 13 having a peripheral surface 19 for abutment against one face of the wall 15 e.g. of a vehicle body and also having a laterally extending base portion 17 for mounting a pane or panes 11, 12 and having on its leading edge a peripheral flange 20 with a lip or rib 21, this flange 20 being adapted for interengagement in a groove 27 as by an undercut 28, Fig. 1 or by a cutaway portion of rib 21, Fig. 5, along one side of the groove in each of a plurality of spaced holding members 25 which serve directly or indirectly by additional means such as wedges 31, to engage the other face of the wall 15 and together with the surface 19 to grip the wall. When made of hard plastics the holding member 25 and wedge 31 may be made in one piece joined by two coupling strips of softer plastics (Fig. 6, 6a 6b, not shown). The leading edge of the base 20 may have a wedge-shaped lip to guide the side 30 of the holding member for the rib 21 to engage the groove 28 and engage over the lip to retain the holding member in position (Fig. 7 not shown).
