Abstract

1,230,334. Epoxy resin compositions. ARMOUR INDUSTRIAL CHEMICAL CO. 11 April, 1969 [24 April, 1968], No. 18737/69. Heading C3B. Epoxy resins are thickened by means of a disubstituted urea formed by an in situ reaction of a C 6-22 primary aliphatic amine with an aromatic or a C 6-22 aliphatic diisocyanate; the mole ratio of amine: isocyanate ranges from 1:1 to 2.5:1. The amine may be an n-alkyl and/or n-alkenyl amine or an amine in which the amine group is linked to a secondary alkyl group. The preferred diisocyanate is toluene diisocyanate. The disubstituted ureas are stated to thicken the resin without curing. The thickened product may be cured by conventional curing agents, e.g. polyamines.
