Abstract

1,230,211. Polymer pigment compositions. VYSKUMNY USTAV CHEMICKYCH VLAKEN. 9 Aug., 1968 [20 Dec., 1967 (2)], No. 38171/68. Headings C3P and C3R. Linear synthetic polymers are pigmented by continuously injecting into a stream of the molten polymer a dispersion consisting of (I) 5- 60% of a pigment and (II) 80-95% of a polyglycol or a mixture of a polyglycol with up to 20% of an organic phosphite. The linear synthetic polymer may be a polyamide, a polyester, polyethylene or polypropylene. The pigment may be Chromophthal red, Chromophthal yellow, Chromophthal green, Chromophthal blue or Graphthol blue. The polyglycol may be polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol or a methyl or ethyl ether thereof. The phosphite may be of formula (RO) 3 P where R is alkyl or of formula (RC 6 H 4 O) 3 P, where R is alkyl or styrenyl, e.g. tricetyl phosphite, tri- (styrylphenyl) phosphite or tri-(nonylphenyl)- phosphite. A suitable apparatus is shown in the drawing in which 6 represents the polymer flow pipe which has a heating jacket 8 and dosing pump 7. The pigment dispersion is stored in tank 1 from which it may be expelled by gas pressure applied at 3 or by a screw conveyer to dosing pump 2. It is then heated at 4 and injected by dosing pump 5. The 3 dosing pumps are driven by electric motor 9 through gear-box 10.
