Abstract

122,967. Hole, H. W. April 4, 1918. Pencil-sharpeners.- A metal block a, which may be integral with a clamp a', is formed with a bore to receive the pencil x and a guiding-surface b with side flanges b' to guide the movements of a small hand-plane c. A sheet-metal tray to receive chips may be fitted to surround three sides of the block a. The bore in the block may be reduced to fit a smaller pencil by means of tube d. The point of the pencil x may abut against the shoulder b', or its position may be determined by a collar f. The angle of the cut may be varied by a wedge g, Fig. 5, fitted with dowel pins g' which engage holes in the block. The plane may consist of a solid block c, Fig. 1, with a cutting-blade c<2> adjusted by screws c<4>, or the body h of the plane may be of sheet metal as shown in Fig. 5, flanges h<2> being turned down to bear on the guiding-surface, and the end p' being tuned up to form a handle. A circular biade j, Fig. 12, may be employed adjusted angularly by means of the set-screw j<2>; longitudinal adjustment may be provided by means of the plate j<3> sliding in the recess j<4>.
