, 1 Claim. The present invention relates to a novel and pocket, the same being called single-edged blade.
More specifically, the construction is characterized by a simple and economical substantially mg to accommodate a shouldered clamping plate to adequately coact with the blade in retaining the same removably in place.
Other features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following detailed description and the accompanying illustrative drawing.
In the drawing, wherein like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the VIEWS:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete pencil sharpener, constructed in accordance with the principles of this invention and ready for use.
Figure 2 is a view likeFigure l with the detachable ment of coordinated features.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the assemblage seen in Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view on the plane of the line 44 of Figure 3, looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a central transverse section taken approximately on the plane of the line 55 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.
and lightness in weight. The main part of the through one end with a tapered device is a substantially block-like or rectangular body 6 of appropriate dimensions. This is formed or conical bore 1, somewhat of conventional character and form, this to accommodate the pencil (not shown). A slot 8 opens into the top of the bore to discharge the shavings, as is customary. the body which coacts with the slot is rounded off and merges into the slot for sake of utility as well as design. As before indicated, one longitudinal edge in the adjacent median portion of the'body is rabbeted out, this to define a flat smooth platen In, a step-down flanges or walls l2.
As before indicated, this device is expressly designed and otherwise constructed to accommodate a single-edged "Gem safety razor blade. The body l3 of the blade is slightly wider than the underlying plate or supporting surface I. on which it rests. The rigid backing l4 seatszneatly on the ledge II and the cutting edge I! projects into the slot 8 and the pencil reception socket l. The clamping plate l6, thickness and dimension is apertured and secured down on the body or base'by a knurled fastening screw IT. The screw pierces the clamping plate and is threaded into a socket in the base. The plate has its outer edge formed with a channel which receives and accommodates the blade backing member H. The opposite inner edge of the plate is curved as at M to coact symmetrically and otherwise with the aforementioned curvate edge or surface} (see Figure 5). The plate It fits snugly between the upstanding flanges or walls [2 and thus, all of the parts coact intimately to provide an eflicient structure] assemblage.
As previously mentioned, this type of sharpener is designed to utilize discarded safety razor blades, more especially those of the single-edged "Gem type, the portions coacting withthe blade in such a manner that the cutting edge is properly presented for keenly cutting the wood and sharpenit is readily removed and another one is substituted therefor.
The invention is manufacturer, this, results at all times.
That edge 9 of ledge II and upstanding end which is of appropriate I 131011. is regarded is unnecessary.
Minor changes in the shape, size and arrange- ,ment of details coming within the field of invention claimed may be resorted to in actual I practice, if desired.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: a
A pencil sharpener of the class described comprising a substantially rectangular body provided with a conical pencil accommodation socket closed at one end and opening at its opposite end through a corresponding end of the body. said body being formed in its top with a slot for registry with its major said socket, top portion rabbeted out to define a the body also having flat smooth blade accommodation platen, and a ledge along the outer longitudinal edge of said platen,
the end portions of the ment with said platen projecting body in alignto elevations above the surface of the plate to define abutment flanges, and a grooved clamping the flanges and overlying the ranged between plate arplate and ledge, the outer edge of said clamping plate having a groove above said ledge.-
