The bar b is passed through the brick, and one end is passed through the hole in one end of the external bar; it is then shifted longitudinally to pass through the other hole. Nuts g are finally applied to the screwed ends. The bar b is cemented within the brick, the bar being shifted longitudinally to allow the bar d to be positioned before the cement has set.
