1,229,168. Substituted aromatic amines. SCOTT PAPER CO. 15 July, 1969 [22 July, 1968], No. 35627/69. Heading C2C. [Also in Division G2] 2,4 - Diamino - 3,5 - dibromo - isopropyl - benzene is prepared by treating 4-isopropyl-mphenylenediamine with bromine and glacial acetic acid. 2,4,6 - Tribromo - m - phenylenediamine and 3,5 - dibromo - 2,4 - diaminochlorobenzene are prepared similarly. 2,6 - Dibromo-4-nitroaniline is prepared by treating p-nitroaniline with bromine and acetic acid. 2,6-Dibromo-1,4-phenylenediamine is prepared by reducing 2,6-dibromo-4-nitroaniline prepared above with zinc and aqueous ethanol in the presence of calcium chloride. 4,6-Dibromo-1,3- phenylenediamine is prepared by treating an aqueous solution of m-phenylenediamine with acetic anhydride to give the diacetate intermediate and then treating this in acetic acid with bromine to give the dibrominated diacetate product and hydrolysing this with aqueous potassium hydroxide and ethanol. 2,4-Diamino- 3,5-dibromotoluene is prepared by treating 2,4- toluenediamine with acetic acid and bromine.
