Abstract

1,228,810. Alkyl tin halides. NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH. 16 July, 1968 [18 July, 1967], No. 33778/68. Heading C2J. Alkyl- or cycloalkyl-tin halides are formed by reacting metallic Sn with alkyl- or cycloalkylhalides or mixtures thereof, in the presence of at least one organo-antimony compound as catalyst. The main reaction product is R 2 SnX 2 . The catalyst is preferably used in an amount of 1-8 mol. per cent, based on the number of gram atoms of Sn present. Preferably the organic groups of the catalyst are the same as those in the alkyl- or cycloalkyl-halide. When the halide is a chloride or bromide, elementary iodine or an iodine compound may be added in an amount of 0À5-10 gram atoms per cent or mole per cent, based on the number of moles of chloride or bromide present. The iodine compound may be an alkyl- or cycloalkyl-iodide, or an alkyl tin iodide. Preferred reaction temperatures are 130-210‹ C.
