Abstract
1,228,730. Snow-clearing vehicles. ELECTRONIC ASSISTANCE CORP. 9 May, 1969 [15 May, 1968], No. 23785/69. Heading E1G. In a snow-clearing vehicle snow deposited in a hopper 14 is melted by mechanical compaction in a chamber 12 and is then released to form discharge water or ice. In the vehicle shown the snow is picked up by front rotary screw blades 26, 28 and a conveyer 20. The chamber 12 at the base of hopper 14 incorporates a compacting plate 32 actuated by an operator-controlled hydraulic cylinder 38, and an ice-extrusion plate 42 actuated by a cylinder 48. When sufficient snow is in the hopper 14 the cylinder 38 is actuated first to compact and then to release the snow in chamber 12 If the ambient temperature is warm enough the released snow-melt stays liquid and is discharged through rear opening 44, but at lower ambient temperatures the released snow-melt turns to ice. In the latter case the cylinder 48 is actuated to extrude the ice 56 through opening 44, where it either falls to the ground or (as shown) is lifted by a conveyer 52 to a dump truck 54.
