Abstract

1,228,727. 2,5-Diarylamino terephthalic acids. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 25 March, 1969 [26 March, 1968], No. 15546/69. Heading C2C. A process for the preparation of a 2,5-diarylamino terephthalic acid comprises condensing the dimethyl or diethyl ester of succinylsuccinic acid with an aromatic amine in the absence of a solvent, oxidizing the 2,5-diarylamino-dihydroterephthalic acid ester obtained with nitrobenzene in the absence of a solvent, saponifying the ester groups with an aqueous alkaline solution and extracting the dialkali metal salt obtained with water and, after separating from the organic phase, precipitating the 2,5-diarylamino terephthalic acid by acidifying the aqueous phase. Suitable arylamines are aniline, the chloro anilines, the toluidines, the chlorotoluidines, the anisidines and 1- and 2-naphthylamine.
