Abstract

1,228,685. Rollers. GENERAL FOODS CORP. 25 July, 1969 [2 Aug., 1968], No. 37608/69. Heading F2U. A cradle C for applying a sheet (e.g. a negative) to a roll 10, e.g. a printing roll, comprises a frame 19. . . 21 having a support 22, 23 shaped so that when resting on the roll it positions a longitudinal axis (normal to the Figure) of the frame parallel to the rotational axis of the roller, and an aligner (e.g. a plate 66 with pins 65 to locate in holes in the sheet) on the frame to align a transverse dimension (e.g. the leading edge 80) of the sheet parallel to the axes. The sheet may be attached to the roll 10 by a length of tape T with pressure adhesive on both sides. When the sheet is in the position shown a roller 50 in the frame may be lowered by rotating a hand wheel 58 to rotate an eccentric 57, and pins 65 removed, and then the roll 10 may be turned clockwise to draw on the sheet from a support 66. This may pivot about an axle 69 with an arm 71 clamped at 75. The cradle may be supported by a structure Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) including pulleys 33 for a counterweight 34 and an arm 41 pivotable to move the cradle, the structure supporting two rolls 10 end to end, which can be rotated by a geared down electric motor, and also adjusted axially.
