Abstract
1,228,645. Proximity detectors. BERGWERKSVERBAND G.m.b.H. May 24, 1968 [June 1, 1967], No. 24989/68. Heading G1N. A rock/ coal interface is detected by its effect on a tuned circuit with a capacitative probe. The circuit is fed from a variable frequency oscillator and both the change in frequency of the circuits and the change in magnitude of the resonance voltage (due to different losses in rock/coal) are detected. These signals are characteristic of the material and are composed with previously determined curves for variation of the signals with spacing of the detector from rock and coal. A detector with a V. F.O. tunable by a capacitor diode energized from a sawtooth sweep oscillator which is gated to stop at resonance is outlined with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
