Abstract
1,228,388. Luminescent materials and uses thereof. AMERICAN CYANAMID CO. 23 July, 1968 [7 Sept., 1967], No. 35176/68. Heading C4S. [Also in Division G4] A bar code is recorded using two or more photo-luminescent components A, B, C, each code group comprising as many areas as there are possible components, and the areas partially overlapping so that significant masking of one component by another is avoided while achieving high information density. The presence or absence of each component in a group is determined by sequentially scanning the group and separating the different luminescence radiation bands, e.g. by dichroic mirrors. Examples of materials used are: yttrium vanadate doped with 0À6 mole per cent dysprosium; trischelate of europium with 1,1,2,2-pentafluorohepta - 3,5 - dione and trioctyl phosphine oxide as a synergic agent; yttrium vanadate doped with 0À6 mole per cent samarium.
