Abstract

1,228,143. Weapon training system. SOLARTRON ELECTRONIC GROUP Ltd. 29 March, 1968 [11 April, 1967], No. 16490/67. Heading F3C. [Also in Division H4] A weapon training system for assessing the accuracy of an aim comprises a source e.g. a gallium arsenide diode laser adapted in operation to provide a beam of electromagnetic radiation, a linkage connected to the source for orienting the source in an orientation related to the orientation of a means e.g. a sight, which is aimed at the target, means for scanning the beam in a predetermined pattern, a detector mounted on the target and adapted in operation to receive the beam when the source is directed with a predetermined accuracy and an indicator adapted to provide in operation information concerning the accuracy of the aim. The beam may be modulated synchronously with the scanning of the beam and the scan may be in the form of a small arc, cone or spiral. The beam may be moved between two positions there being an overlap portion of the beam at the target in the two positions (Fig. 4, not shown). Inputs into the weapon simulating circuit (Fig. 1, not shown) simulate the number of rounds available, the nature of the rounds and the firing control for two different types of weapon. The range of the target may be computed from the " time of flight " of the radiation to the target or from a radar range finder. A radiation source and detectors may be mounted on each of several vehicles during training.
