Abstract

1,227,573. Thermal switches. CROUZET. 10 July, 1968 [19 July, 1967], No. 32864/68. Heading H1N. A tubular body 1, externally threaded for screwing into the cylinder head of a motor vehicle engine, for example, encloses a snapacting contact 5a coupled by a push rod 12, 13 to a diaphragm 2 hermetically sealing a chamber 3. The chamber 3 contains a gas (for example air) and liquid (for example water) at normal temperatures such that the liquid is completely vaporized in the desired operating range of temperature. The contact 5a is carried on a blade 5 pivoted on a support strip 7 depending from a median arm of a curved strip 8 riveted (at 8b, Fig. 3, not shown) to an insulating cover plate 4. An overcentre spring 6 normally holds contact 5a against a backstop 8a also depending from strip 8. A screw 14 in the cover 4 serves to adjust the strip 7, and hence the contact assembly, with respect to the diaphragm 2, thereby setting the temperature at which contact 5a snaps into engagement with an adjustable fixed contact 11 connected to a terminal tag 9.
