Abstract
1,227,495. Plant growth regulants. OSTERREICHISCHE STICKSTOFFWERKE A.G. 10 June, 1969 [19 June, 1968; 20 March, 1969; 24 March, 1969], No. 29473/69. Heading C1B. A process for regulating the growth of plants comprises treating the plants, their seeds or the soil with an alpha-substituted aliphatic acid of formula. C n H 2n+1 .X.COOH wherein n is 5 to 8 and X is or the active compound being in the form of the free acid, an alkali metal or ammonium salt, a salt with an organic base, an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl ester, or an amide, monoalkylamide or dialkylamide. Typical compounds specified are alpha-hydroxycaprylic acid, alpha-ketocaprylic acid, alpha-hydroxyhexyl malonic acid, alphaaminocaprylic acid and alpha-hydroxycaprylic acid amide. Conventional adjuvants which may be present include inert extenders or diluents, wetting agents, fertilizers such as urea or ammonium sulphate, dyestuffs, fungicides, bactericides, adhesives and water softeners such as ethylene-diamine-tetraacetic acid disodium salt.
